You will need to provide your own bike. The vast majority of the course can be completed on road bike. However, there will be certain short sections where riding a road bike will not be possible, such as a short beach section. Mountain bikes will cover all terrain as will commuter bikes with wide tyres. Mountain bikes with slick tyres would be an optimal choice, however, the course is such that nobody will have to go out and buy a new bike. All bike types (except pennyfarthings and possibly unicycles!) are suitable for this race.
Your bike will be safety checked at Sandymount Green by Two Wheels Bike Shop who will be looking after Transition Area 1. All bikes will have to be safety tagged by 2 Wheels prior to the race. This is a mandatory requirement.
2 Wheels will be open for registration and safety tagging for the week prior to the event
2x spare tubes (that are suitable for your bike), tyre levers and a pump/co2 inflator are mandatory gear for the race
there will also be a mobile repair unit at the half/way point of the race and 4 roving mechanics on the route to deal with any repairs.
Trail shoes would be optimal, however you will get away with road shoes and normal runners.
All kayaks, paddles and bouyancy aids will be supplied
All abseil related equipment will be supplied such as harness, helmet and figure of 8 device.
These items must be carried by one team member during the entire race.
